[DIS]CONNECTED – exposition

exhibition at Viggo’s coffeebar

She discovered a certain calmness – a stillness – that she defined as the essence of things. To obtain this essence, rather than shying away from it, she embraces colour, light and darkness. This translates into a series of works. A peculiar visual depth is created using colour and the movement of the brush. With nature being a source of inspiration, she absorbs everything she perceives in her immediate surroundings. It is impregnated in her mind.

The circle is an echo throughout her artworks. It resembles a multitude of meanings she encountered during the progress of expressing her feelings. The circle meaning an expression of the moment – inspired by the Japanese calligraphy “enso” – and representing time – the belief of eternal movement.

She has chosen not to name her artworks and thereby defining them to one plausible definition but has rather chosen to work with a series of abbreviations. In an effort to capture her feelings and the meaning of the series of artworks, but without interfering with the experience of the spectators, she welcomes all feelings that are evoked by her work of art.

meaning of the title

The artworks embrace the intension to go deeper – to the inner calm that one feels along their journey in life. Sometimes after the calm, you feel struck. You can merely do one thing: step back, look, change the colour and … continue. Continue without judging the process, nor yourself. Continue until you get back on your path and particularly keep on creating in the midst of it all. In the end, everything is one and is always connected. Everything is part of the universe – as everything is part of the void.
